YS: Ep 2 (Scanned Roman Statue)

For my second experiment in this series, I decided to go for a full object scan, with the aim of preserving our historical heritage digitally for future generations.
Luckily, the sky was cloudy on that day, providing the perfect conditions to capture as many shots as possible of this small Roman statue. Then I processed the highly detailed point cloud and cropped the region surrounding the model. Next, I calculated the raw 3D version, which was (~8 mil polygons), so, I decimated it to around (~2 mil polygons) and generated high-resolution texture maps (8k diffuse/AO).
The main challenge during this experiment was ensuring that all the shots were properly aligned, which greatly facilitated the processing. Additionally, the overcast sky made the process of enhancing the visuals somewhat easier.
